Recently, The 2020 Chinese Undergraduate Physics Experiment Competition (innovation-based) rang down the curtain online. Five student teams led by 10 instructors from HZAU’s College of Science won one first prize, two second prizes, one third prize and one excellent prize in the competition. Moreover, six instructors won the outstanding instructor award, and HZAU won the outstanding organization award.
Under the guidance of teachers of the department of Physics from the College of Science, students from different colleges completed a total of 5 entries, including those from the College of Science, the College of Life Science & Technology, the College of Plant Science & Technology and the College of Fisheries. Among them, experiments “Measuring axial magnetic field distribution of spiral tube by Hall effect” and “Measuring curvature radius of plano-convex lens by Newton's ring” won the first prize and second prize respectively. As for entries of self-selected topics, “Testing the intactness of glass bottles based on acoustic principles”, “Measuring the height and vertical velocity quantitatively by smart phone” and “Verification of Torricelli's Law”, won the second prize, third prize and excellent prize respectively.
Held from July to December, the 2020 CUPEC saw a gathering of 1,408 teams from 410 universities, including Fudan University, Nankai University, National University of Defense Technology and Dalian University of Technology. As intended, contestants competed over three categories: innovative works of assigned experiments, innovative works of self-selected experiments and teaching contest of college physics experiments. After the preliminary review, on-line assessment and finally the oral defense session, a total of 886 team prizes were awarded, including 145 first prizes, 294 second prizes and 447 third prizes.
